How to Get the Best Lip Enhancement at Every Age
Who doesn’t want a plumper pout?
There is an art to lip enhancement. Who you select to do your injections can mean the difference between getting a fuller, natural-looking pout or the dreaded over-filled “duck look.” The key to a natural, beautiful lip enhancement is in the injector’s approach. Patients at every age have different goals and motivations. For patients in their 20s, it can be the desire for fuller lips and better facial balance. For an older patient, an enhancement can address volume loss, a blurry lip line and wrinkles around the mouth. Here are some issues patients are facing in each decade and how to approach lip enhancement at every age.
Patients in Their 20s, most often have issues of genetic lip imperfections like asymmetry, thin lips, a gummy smile or their expression might appear sad or angry. At this age it is about enhancement. Patients this age tend to love the look of fuller lips. It is important that the lips still look proportionate to the face and bring balance to the entire face. Sometimes the most important decision I make is what NOT to do. The goal is to create a natural look that will be barely noticeable to all but the patient.
How to treat: Restylane Kysse is perfect to inject in the upper and lower lip. Restylane Kysse is so versatile. It can be injected superficially for fine lines and deep for lip fullness with great results. It can also be used for the corners of the mouth. It is a wonderful filler for younger and older patients.
Patients in Their 30s, Lips are at their fullest at the ages of 16 to 18. In the 30s, a noticeable thinning begins to happen, due to loss of collagen and elastin. This results in thinning and drying of the lips. Lip lines, which are caused by a combination of sun exposure and the natural aging process, can also appear. Increased muscle activity from daily facial expressions also contributes to upper lip wrinkles. Filling the finer wrinkles and injecting a small amount into the lips retains their fullness.
How to treat: Restylane Defyne and Restylane Kysse is a great combination for excellent results.
Patients in Their 40s, may experience even more drying and thinning of the lips. At this age, it is about restoration. The laugh lines and corners of the mouth begin to change, becoming deeper and more pronounced, causing the overall expression of the patient to change. Treating these areas also supports the lips. Using fillers in the lips and surrounding areas maintains full lips and reduces wrinkles that have already begun to set in.
How to treat: Restylane Refyne or Kysse in the lips and Restylane Defyne in the corners of the mouth create beautiful results
Patients in Their 50s, require looking at the overall facial structure. Frequently a loss of collagen, fat and bone in the mid-face greatly affects the shape of the mouth. The distance of white between the nose and the vermilion border at the top of the upper lip can get longer, so it is necessary to recreate the Cupid’s bow and the philtral columns (the vertical grooves above the upper lip). This restores the youthful anatomy of the lip.
How to treat: Artfully injecting fillers restores the natural shape and volume of the lips. Adding a small amount of Dysport/Xeomin/Botox can relax fine lines above the lips and give a subtle lip flip.
Patients in Their 60s and above, the same issues found in patients in their 50s need to be addressed. Lip restoration is the main issue treat. Fillers are used mainly to restore fullness, treat the lines around the mouth and restore the facial structures around the lips.
How to treat: Injecting Restylane Kysse in the lips as well as a blend of exosomes (the XO Facia), Dysport/Xeomin, and Restylane Refyne for perioral lines gives a soft, subtle look.
