Kybella
Do you have some extra fullness beneath your chin? Maybe you’ve had this your whole life, or it’s something you noticed recently. This is called submental fullness, which some people refer to as “double chin. This can be caused by weight gain, genetics and/or aging.
You don’t have to be overweight to have fullness under your chin.
Sometimes, no matter how much you exercise or diet, the condition doesn’t go away.
Kybella is made of a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells permanently, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, and revealing an improved chin profile. Bye-bye double chin!
How Kybella Works
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment used to improve the moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fullness), also called a “double chin.” The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When Kybella is injected into the fat beneath the chin it destroys fat cells permanently, giving you a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. The destroyed fat cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. The result is a noticeable reduction in fullness under your chin, showing off your new improved profile.
Is Kybella For You?
Before starting treatment, Dr. Tanne will examine the area under and around your chin to determine whether the fullness beneath your chin is due to fat or only skin laxity. If Kybella is right for you, she will tailor your treatment to the amount of fat under the chin and your aesthetic goals.
At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin. The injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
Dr. Tanne will create a tailored treatment plan based on your chin profile. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 Kybella treatments which are spaced at least 1 month apart.
What are the side-effects?
The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area.
When injected into fat under the chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic goal, no further treatment is needed.
